Seven pillars of lifestyle management
Seven pillars of lifestyle management PDF Print E-mail

The seven pillars of lifestyle management are:

  • Diet: The body is like a factory. Bring in inferior materials and you end up with inferior products. Junk food creates a junk body. Skin cells are dying and being replaced every 36 hours. The liver is replaced by new cells every three months. There is an enormous turnover of cells happening, constantly. The quality of the material used to replace these dying cells will affect the quality of the new cells being formed. So make good food choices by buying organic fresh foods where possible and avoiding processed dead foods.

  • Weight reduction: Most studies have shown that obesity is a major risk factor for ill health and that obesity is on the increase despite people eating low fat diets. So what is the problem?

  • Exercise: Every study I have read supports exercise as a major health promoting factor and no exercise as a serious risk factor for disease.

  • Stress management: Prolonged stress raises cortisol levels, damages brain cells, weakens the immune systemImage and has effects on other hormones such as insulin, thyroid and DHEA.

  • Pollution Control: We live in an exceedingly toxic environment. Our farmlands are continuously sprayed with poisons, motor vehicles and airplanes emit poisons which spread everywhere and are carried by winds all over the planet. We must to try to remove as many of these pollutants as is possible. In many simple ways we can do this.

  • Nutritional supplements: 40% of Americans are deficient in magnesium and 30% in selenium. Vitamin C, A and D are deficient in many individuals. The body needs nutrients to replace the constant turnover of cells and to make sure that all metabolic processes are functioning at optimum levels. I believe that most people are suffering from a range of nutrient deficiencies. And in a toxic world, this places and enormous burden on the body's ability to function optimally.

  • Psychospiritual journeywork: This has to do with the meaning and purpose of life. It’s about finding joy and searching for those magnificent soul qualities which are buried deep within each person. The ‘soul’ in this context has no religious meaning but refers to something we all recognize as a qualitatively better part of ourselves.
